Top universities for computer science in the US & Canada

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US) tops the list of the world’s best computer science universities, followed by second-ranked Stanford University. Carnegie Mellon University, Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley all make the global top ten, while Princeton University follows close behind at 11^th, the University of California, Los Angeles at 14^th, and the University of Toronto (Canada) at 16^th. Overall, the US and Canada have a strong showing among the top universities for computer science, with 40 US universities and eight Canadian featured in the top 200.

Top universities for computer science in Europe

The University of Oxford (UK) is Europe’s highest ranking university for computer science, coming in at 3^rd in the world. Its historic rival, the University of Cambridge, is ranked 5^th while Switzerland’s ETH Zurich makes it into the top ten at 9^th. The University of Edinburgh (UK) is ranked 15^th and Switzerland features again ranked in 17^th place with the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. The UK capital’s Imperial College London at UCL follow at 18^th and 23^rd respectively. At total of 82 European universities feature among the top 200 computer sciences institutes.

Top universities for computer science in Asia-Pacific

The highest Asian entry in the top universities for computer science is the National University of Singapore (NUS), which is ranked 8^th. The University of Hong Kong rounds off the top ten in 10^th place, and Hong Kong features again with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) ranked 12^th. Australia’s University of Melbourne follows in 13^th place, and the Asia-Pacific region dominates the latter half of the top 25: the Chinese University of Hong Kong is ranked 19^th, the University of Tokyo 20^th, Australian National University 21^st, Nanyang Technological University 22^nd, the University of Sydney 24^th and the University of Queensland 25^th. A total of 63 Asia-Pacific universities feature in the top 200.

Sony  unveiled the new Alpha 7 II (ILCE-7M2) mirrorless camera. The new Alpha 7 II has a special 5-axis optical image stabilisation (sensor-shift), which is the first of its kind in a full-frame mirrorless camera.

The five axis optical image stabilisation (OIS) can move along the regular left/ right and up/ down axis. The sensor can try to negate three other angular movements of the camera - tilting up/ down (pitch), swinging left/ right (yaw) and rotating clockwise/ anti-clockwise (roll). Using the CIPA standard, Sony claims that the this OIS system can reduce shakes up to 4.5-stops, which indicates that you can hold the camera in your hands and use shutter speeds that are 4.5-stops slower without a perceptible shake.

Since the OIS is reliant on the sensor, it will work with any lens attached to it, including non-Sony lenses that are attached using an adapter. In fact, if a Sony-Standard E-mount lens with image stabilisation is attached, then the camera leverages on both the image stabilisation systems to further reduce camera shake.
The Alpha 7 II comes with a 24.3-megapixel Exmor CMOS Sensor that features the predecessor's 117 phase detect and 25 contrast detect points, but Sony claims there is a 30 percent improvement in the auto-focus speed.



With respect to video recording, while Sony hasn't added 4K video capability, the Alpha 7 II does get support for the XAVC S codec, which can record 1080/ 60p video at 50Mbps. The camera also has support for S-Log 2, thus adding a wider dynamic range.

The Alpha 7 II has a bigger grip and has an additional front dial. The shutter release button has now been placed on the grip, which Sony claims is similar to DSLRs. We will have to test the camera to figure out how it performs ergonomically.The Sony Alpha 7 II is slated to be available in Japan from December 5 and should hit the European markets by January 2015.

First Nokia-branded Android tablet dubbed the Nokia N1, has also released the "predictive Nokia Z Launcher" as a beta app on Google Play. 

The Nokia Z Launcher also ships with Nokia N1 Android tablet as custom UI on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. For other devices running Android versions ranging from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to Android 4.4 KitKat can download the Nokia Z Launcher Beta app from Google Play (notably, the app is not available on Google Play India yet).

Nokia Z Launcher is learning how you use your phone and promoting your favourite apps so you can get to them faster." It adds that over time, the "Z Launcher learns what applications are in use, and predicts and highlights the applications consumers are expected to want based on time of day and location.

Nokia Tablet N1

The Nokia N1 starts at $250 and is set to go on sale in China before the Chinese New Year -- that's February 19, 2015. Information on other international pricing and release dates have yet to be announced, but the US dollar price converts to around £160 or AU$290.

The N1 looks trendy and slim. It's 6.9mm thick and an aluminum frame that comes in dark gray or silver. Its 7.9-inch IPS LCD screen boasts a 4:3 aspect ratio with a 2,048x1,536-pixel resolution. Inside you'll find a 64-bit 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 CPU and PowerVR G6430 GPU with 2GB RAM.

Nokia N1 houses a whopping 32GB of internal storage. Initially this sounds impressive, until you realise it can't be expanded.  

Other features on the Nokia N1 include stereo speakers, Bluetooth 4.0, an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel one on the front -- rather high for a front-facing camera.

The Nokia N1 is one of the first tablets to sport a USB Type-C socket, which is a reversible USB port that's set to replace all types of USB connections. It's not the sexiest cutting-edge feature, but it's useful future-proofing.

The N1 is also the first to sport Nokia's Android launcher,               Z Launcher. Running on top of the latest version of Google's operating system, Lollipop 5.0, the Z Launcher simplifies the home screen with a gridlike display of apps.

The Keylink is a small Bluetooth-powered accessory that can get attached to any keychain and paired with any Android (version 4.3 or higher) and iOS (version 7.1 or higher) smartphone using the Motorola Connect app, which is available for download from Google Play and the App Store.

Motorola also said that the Moto X (Gen 2), Droid Turbo or devices with Android 5.0 Lollipop can now use 'Trusted device' settings to enable the added ability to keep the smartphone unlocked when the Motorola Keylink is nearby.

Google had officially confirmed the pricing of the Nexus 6 in India by listing it on the Google Play store in India earlier this month. The Google Nexus 6 32GB variant has been priced at Rs. 44,000 in India, while the 64GB variant has been priced at Rs. 49,000. 

Flipkart's pricing for the 32GB and 64GB variants are the same as the official Google Play listing of the Nexus 6, at Rs. 44,000 and Rs. 49,000 respectively.

Flipkart is also offering special offers to pre-order customers, such as a free three-month subscription to Flipkart First; a smartphone exchange offer that can give a discount of up to Rs. 10,000, Rs. 1,500 cashback on purchasing on six-month to 12-month EMI schemes via HDFC or ICICI banks, and pre-selected Flipkart ebooks worth Rs. 2,100 for free.

The Google Nexus 6, which is being manufactured by Motorola, comes with a 5.96-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) display at a pixel density of 493ppi. The smartphone is powered by a 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor alongside 3GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear and front cameras respectively.

The Nexus 6 runs the most recent version of Android i.e. Android 5.0 Lollipop, which comes with a fresh look thanks to Material Design and a host of new features. The Nexus 6 sports a massive 3220mAh battery, which adds to its bulk, since the smartphone weighs 184 grams and measures 82.98 x 159.26 x 10.06mm.
 
 

Hide Last Seen on WhatsApp

 WhatsApp for Android:

1. First launch Whatsapp and then click on Menu in it. Commonly it's a 3-dots symbol on the top right-corner and for those who have a menu button in the three capacitive button at the bottom can access it from there (usually bottom left-most or right-most touch capacitive button).
2. Under the Menu user will find Settings.
3. Tap on Settings and find Privacy option and select.
4. Under the Privacy, users can see the Last Seen option under Who Can See My Personal Info. Just tap on it and select whom do you want to show the information - Everyone (info will be visible to all), My contacts (Will not be visible to people other than WhatsApp contacts) and Nobody (No one can see the info and neither can you see their Last Seen info).

WhatsApp for iPhone:

1. First launch Whatsapp and then tap on Settings in it, located at the bottom right corner.
2. Now in Settings find an option says Account.
3. Tap on Account and then tap on Privacy in it.
4. Now finally tap on Last seen to change it from Everyone (info will be visible to all) to My contacts (Will not be visible to people other than WhatsApp contacts) or Nobody

 

PlayStation 4 Remote Play on your Xperia phone or tablet

 

You already own the Xperia Z2 or Z2 Tablet, the good news is that Sony has enabled Remote Play for those devices as well. And while modders have managed to get Remote Play working on other devices, that involves a bunch of work that most people won't bother with, since it involves rooting and flashing certain files to trick the app into thinking it's running on a Sony-certified device.

 

Setting up:

Setting up is really easy. First, you'll need to download the PlayStation Remote Play app from the Google Play Store. Remember how I said it doesn't work if you don't have a compatible device? Google Play won't let you download the app unless you do.
Once you have the app installed on your Xperia phone, you'll need to ensure that Remote Play is turned on in your PlayStation 4 settings. Navigate to Settings > View Controller Guide > Register and turn it on.

You want to connect the PS4 DualShock controller to the phone. If you only have one controller. This is because you may need to use the controller when setting up and if you only have one, you won't be able to do so since it will be locked to the phone until you pair it again to the PS4. That said, you can return to doing this any time by clicking on the settings button in the app.

Before you begin pairing the Xperia phone and the PS4, make sure both devices are on the same home network, then hit the search button on the app. If the phone doesn't detect the PS4 (like in my case) automatically, you can still use a number code to pair up your devices.
